Closed Feature: Add WCF Streaming Services for the Velodoc Outlook Add-in [1004]

The Velodoc Outlook Add-in and Client API are due to be released at the end of Q1 2008.

Contrary to most competing file transfer Outlook add-ins, this one will be based on a plug-in architecture with plug-ins for Velodoc, Velodoc XP, FTP Servers, BITS Servers and Amazon S3 to start with.

The Velodoc XP plug-in will rely on a WCF streaming service.

On some (not all) Windows Server 2003 configurations the setup fails with the following error:

Exception occured while initializing the installation:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\WINDOWS\system32\and' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

The install.log file (in C:\Documents and Settings\jlchereau\Local Settings\Temp\VSDXXXX.tmp where XXXX may vary) includes the following trace:

C:/WINDOWS/system32/and is not an application file.
This does not seem to affect installations on Windows XP.

This error is being researched and we will post more information soon.

Closed Issue: Web application created by setup not set to use ASP.NET 2.0 [1762]

The Visual Studio installer creates web applications on virtual directories with the version of ASP.NET enabled by default which depends on the order in which IIS and ASP.NET have been installed. On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, if IIS is installed after .NET framework 2.0, web applications are created with ASP.NET 1.1 by default.

To enable ASP.NET 2.0 systematically, run "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe" -s W3SVC/1/ROOT/VelodocXP (assuming the site id is 1 which is true for the default web site and the virtual directory is VelodocXP which is the default value).

This has now been included in the setup for release 1.1.

Closed Issue: Error accessing a .cs file in C:\Windows\Temp [2248]

Sometimes, users get an error that a .cs file with a name like C:\Windows\Temp\aec23fg45.cs cannot be accessed.
.NET framework generate serialization classes in %windir%\Temp.

On Vista and Windows Server 2008, the IIS_IUSRS group has modify permissions on this directory, but on
- Windows XP, the ASPNET user does not have permissions,
- Widnows Server 2003, the IIS_WPG group does not have permissions either.

This is fixed and our setup now adds the required permissions.

We already check email syntax using a regular expression. This could be improved by checking that the DNS server returns an MX record for the domain. Accordingly jsmith@hotmail.com would be a valid email address but jsmith@hotmai.com would not be a avlid email address and would raise an error.

On Windows Server 2003, the group which has the required permissions to execute ASP.NET applications is IIS_WPG and NETWORK SERVICE is part of this group.

The issue is on a standalone server this group is MACHINENAME\IIS_WPG whereas on a domain controller this group is DOMAIN\IIS_WPG. We have now introduced a test in the WebInstaller class to check whether the server is a domain controller and refer to the appropriate full name.

This issue does not affect Windows Server 2008 where the group is BUILTIN\IIS_IUSRS in all cases.

The issue is Microsoft has forgotten an enableSsl attribute in the mailSettings/network element of web.config and the only way to enable TLS authentication to SMTP servers out of the box is using SmtpClient.EnableSsl = true programmatically.

We have added an application settings to enable TLS in web.config:

I first answer your two questions:
1) You do not need to install anything on clients. IE or Firefox is all you need.
2) I do not think Windows XP or IIS 5.1 is the problem although IIS 5.1 on XP limits the number of user connections to 10 which you may want to increase to 40 as explained in http://blog.openboxsoftware.com/2005/09/increasing-the-number-of-connections-to-iis-in-xp/. We have executed Velodoc XP on Windows XP without any issue and I have run uploads on your web site from various platforms and browsers and I always get the progress bar. My IE anf Firefox security settings are the ones by default and your site is in the default security zone.

IMHO, the issue is in your client environment. Have you tried connecting from home? Have you asked customers, suppliers or partners who are using the web site whether they get the progress bar?

I only have in mind two reasons for the progress bar not to show in your environment:
- security settings and you are telling me that you have added your site in the Trusted Zone;
- connection limits: I have mentionned server side limits. I assume your browsers are configured by default, i.e. they should allow 2 connections per web site. Note that this can be changed in the registry for IE and by typing about:config in the address bar for Firefox.

Are you using a Proxy/Firewall which could limit the number of connections to a web site or prevent Ajax calls for any reason?

There is not much I can do. I can only recommend using Fiddler with IE7 (http://www.fiddler2.com) or Firebug with Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843) to check whether the XmlHttpRequest calls to uploadHandler.ashx effectively return 200 OK with the required JSON string containing the data to display the progress.

As information: we have the same pb with Firefox....
In my IE7 config , i put the url https://sendfiles.axianscaen.com in the Trust Site Zone which is configured to allow all script, ActiveX etc... But i don't see somethink about Ajax. Do i need another thing to install ?
Does the IIS 5 from XP cannot be the problem ?

If you cannot see the progress bar, there is a possibility that Ajax (XmlHttp) calls are prevented.
I am using the default Security Settings in Internet Explorer 7.
Have you restricted some security settings?
See menu Tools -> Internet Options -> Security

As you can check from the attached screenshot, I have no issue displaying the progress bar in IE7.
We do not manage a build number 'per se', but you can check the date of files in the downloaded archive.
The most recent builds are May, July and September.
Critical bugs have been fixed in the September build.

I experience this with Every files
Yes the process works but there is no progress bar.
To test: try https://sendfiles.axianscaen.com/velodocxp and choose fbroussey@axians.com as receiver.
How can i see the build ? This is a 1.1 version.

This is not something we have ever experienced.
What is your server platform?
Do you experience this with any file or just a specific file?
Is the file actually uploaded and is the email sent at the end?
Do you have a test case that we can reproduce?
There is a new build recently uploaded. Have you tried it?
